Dashe Cellars Zinfandel Blends Bundle
Region: USA, California
Grape Variety: Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Carignan, Mourvèdre
Michael and Anne Dashe met, married and started Dashe Cellars in 1996. The idea behind their urban warehouse, originally in Oakland, was to bring a bottling of pastoral beauty and rolling vineyards to the city-dwellers who loved wine, but couldn't get out into the counties.
Michael's first experience in the beverage industry was brewing beer at the age of 15. While studying biology and environmental science as an undergraduate, Michael took a part-time job in a winery, and transferred allegiances. Soon, he strung together a Masters in Enology at UC Davis and internships in Napa, at Cloudy Bay, Lafite Rothschild, Ridge and Lytton Springs.
Anne was born in Brittany, in France and studied at the University of Bordeaux. While there, she landed an internship with a winemaker in St-Emilion. Following this up with a position as Research Enologist at Chappellet, and so wound up on the other side of the pond.
Over the last 20 years, the Dashes have established a strong relationship of trusted growers throughout Sonoma and Mendocino who share their values and will provide them with characterful fruit. They prioritise old vines planted on steep hills, controlled yields and reduced application of chemicals. Michael himself often gets involved in harvesting decisions, so that fruit has the balance of sugar and acidity that they want in their wines.
This bundle will only be for sale from 4th to 18th September.

2015 Dashe Cellars Bedrock Vineyard Ancient Vines

Line it up with a full rack of lamb.
30% Zinfandel, 35% Carignan, 35% Mourvèdre. The Dashe team work closely with the folks at Bedrock Vineyard, also making a 100% Zinfandel. However, for this blend they exclusively select fruit from the oldest parcels on the site, which were all planted in the late-1880s.
Hand-picked, wild ferment, with each varietal vinified separately. Kept separate for 16 months aging in huge oak vats, of which 20% was new.
