2017 Failla Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Region: USA, California
Grape Variety: Pinot Noir
Dry med-bodied red; mellow, raspberry | Smoked duck and pomegranate salad
The Failla team handpicks the grapes from 7 different vineyards, ferments them individually and then blends them together at the end. It is aged predominately in old oak, which gives it a tinge of vanilla on the nose. Fresh, plump strawberries on the nose, with a light acid on the body. Perfect for something salty, like charcuterie or a delicious taco!
Ehren Jordan converted to oenology half-way through a degree in archaeology. Having trained under Jean-Luc Colombo in the Rhône, his Californian wines exhibit some European influence, particularly in the restraint which he achieves by seeking out cooler sites. Setting up his own winery in 1998, Ehren grows and bottles only Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and very small quantities of Syrah under the Failla label. Ehren also manages Day Zinfandel, which is a pet project dedicated exclusively to Zinfandel wines.
