2014 Birichino Besson Vineyard Grenache Old Vines
Region: USA, California
Grape Variety: Grenache (105 years old!)
Dry, medium-bodied red | Five-spiced roast duck
Walking through the Besson vineyard in December, we couldn't resist picking some post-harvest bunches of tiny-berried Grenache from the centenarian vines. They were irresistibly concentrated yet balanced, and we understood how this wine is so entrancing, year-in, year-out. Strawberry coulis, a dash of white pepper and plenty of rose petals, all bound together by silky tannins and acidity. Just stunning.
