2009 Domaine Albert Boxler Riesling Grand Cru Sommerberg Vendanges Tardives
Region: France, Alsace
Farming: Certified Organic
Grape Variety: Riesling
Sweet, med-bodied white; sigh of joy | Dense shellfish – geoducks, giant clams
The Boxlers have held land around the village of Niedermorschwihr since 1673, including the two Grand Cru sites of Sommerberg and Brand. The current owner and winemaker, Jean, believes in harvesting late to get full ripeness in his wines, but only labels them Vendanges Tardives when they meet his (very high) standards for power and balance.
As such, this Riesling is not a dessert wine per se, despite its sweetness; we think it works best with an aromatic, rich braised dish.
