Jongieux is only about a hundred miles southeast of Beaujolais, but the intervening mountain range means that Gamay takes on a different personality without losing its essential character.
Furthermore, the Dupasquiers eschew carbonic maceration in favour of a traditional alcoholic fermentation, believing that the fruit will emerge after bottling. The wine is supple without being too sleek, and with air all the elements start to come into focus: brambly fruit powder-coated with minerals, framed by a curve of acid which arcs up towards a sweet, clean finish.
