Lo Hei Festive Bundle
Lunar New Year always conjures a cornucopia of flavours and textures (yusheng, steamboat, barbecued pork, cookies, the list goes on!), and we inevitably get asked which wines are best-suited for all the feasting and snacking. We're happy to present a bundle of the wines we typically drink during this period!
It's a strikingly diverse bunch of wines, reflecting the variety of food that we will enjoy over the next few weeks. What ties them together across all the different styles is the balance between acidity and sweetness; a bubbly lift in the Prosecco and cider, mid-palate precision in both the Riesling and Chinon, and fruit freshness from gentle extraction in the Mourvèdre and Côtes du Rhône.
There is a total of six bottles in the bundle. It consists of:
1 x 2017 Spagnol «Col del Sas» Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOCG Prosecco Superiore Extra-Dry
1 x 2017 Eric Bordelet Sidre Brut Tendre
1 x 2017 Daniel Vollenweider Wolfer Goldgrube Riesling Kabinett feinherb
1 x 2018 Bernard Baudry Chinon Blanc
1 x 2017 Birichino Contra Costa County Old Vines Mourvèdre
1 x 2016 Domaine Charvin Côtes du Rhône Rouge
Please see details of each wine below.
2017 Spagnol «Col del Sas» Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOCG Prosecco Superiore Extra-Dry
Region: Italy, Veneto
Grape Variety: Glera
Sparkling, off-dry white; white blossoms
Pairing: Use as an aperitif
Slope-grown, hand-harvested, small-batch Prosecco. Lipsmacking floral freshness for all-day drinking.
2017 Eric Bordelet Sidre Brut Tendre
Region: France, Loire
Sparkling, off-dry, med-bodied; poised
Pairing: Prawn rolls, keropok
Eric's ciders are a whistle-stop tour through the rich diversity of heirloom apple varieties; the Brut-Tendre is perfectly poised for all manner of savoury snacks.
2017 Daniel Vollenweider Wolfer Goldgrube Riesling Kabinett feinherb
Region: Germany, Mosel
Grape Variety: Riesling
Off-dry, light-bodied white; edgy, complex
Feinherb is fast becoming a forgotten, in-between style in the rapid shift from sweet to dry wines along the Mosel; what a shame because in the right hands it's just perfect for salads with a hint of sweetness, such as yusheng.
2018 Bernard Baudry Chinon Blanc
Region: France, Loire - Chinon
Viticulture: Certified Organic
Grape Variety: Chenin Blanc
Dry, light-bodied white; like a dream
Pairing: Spring Rolls
The little bit of blanc that Mathieu makes is always excellent, and our sentimental favourite in his line-up. Round, bright and delicious.
2017 Birichino Contra Costa County Old Vines Mourvèdre
Region: USA, California
Grape Variety: Mourvèdre
Dry, med-bodied red; cherries and graphite
Pairing: Grilled meats
Century-old vines, low yields, no adornment in the cellar. A streak of minerality, plenty of fruit, characterful.
2016 Domaine Charvin Côtes du Rhône Rouge
Region: France, Rhône - South
Farming: Certified Organic
Grape Varieties: Grenache, Carignan, Bourboulenc
Dry, med-bodied red; dense, mineral
Laurent Charvin has stayed true to familial and regional tradition by making generous yet sprightly Southern Rhône wines from organically farmed vineyards with minimal use of oak. His Côtes du Rhône is always great value, packing incredible pepper spice and wild strawberry flavour into just a single bottle.
The Bundle is available till 15th February 2020 or while stock lasts.
